Recently, the City of Richland instituted an annual Fire Inspection for all churches. We failed the first inspection and were given a list of things to be done before the follow-up in two weeks. Not a huge list, but significant in there were lots of little things and a couple of big things to be completed.
One of those big things was changing the door lock on the side door near the sheds. We went to several stores and checked online and called other stores to no avail to find the correct type of door latch. I tried to look online for the appropriate lock and might have found one we could order, but it might not arrive in time for the inspection. Phil and I both sat down for a quick rest after all of that.

When I roused up out of the quick rest, I felt defeated and frustrated. I prayed about it. Within a millisecond of saying amen, I heard “Mounts Lock and Key”. Phil called them. Yep, sure enough! They had exactly what we needed – in stock! So, we dashed down and got it before closing time.
Don’t know why neither of us thought of them before. Don’t know why neither of us thought about praying about it before. But there it is. We get frustrated or overwhelmed or just plain busy and we forget to pray. Or maybe we feel God doesn’t care about our little difficulties, so we don’t want to bother the GREAT I AM with trivial life stuff.
Bother the GREAT I AM with the trivial life stuff!!!
Stop and pray!
Pray about everything!
The GREAT I AM stands ready to help! Ready to intercede in our behalf! Ready to clear the path. Ready to bless the heck out of us! Nothing is too big nor too small to bring to Divine Source!
Is there a difficulty on your heart right now? Pray about it!
Recently, on a Trent Tribe podcast he shared about his wife teaching their son the Lord’s Prayer. Instead of “Lead us not into temptation,” the boy said, “Lead us not into temper-tation.” Instead of “Deliver us from evil,” the boy said, “Deliver us from people.” Hilarious, but true!! When we feel temper rising, pray about it! When people are just too people-y, pray about it!
Don’t know how to pray? Who ya talkin’ to? Say the name – whatever name you choose to call Divine Source. (I like Living Light of Love.) Then say what’s going on in your life that requires Divine Attention. Let’s not judge whether it’s worthy of Divine Attention or not. We just pour out our hearts.
Know this. Divine Source is listening. Even when we aren’t talking aloud. Even when we are not talking to Divine Source, our concerns, our worries, our stresses are already being noted. The act of prayer activates our willingness to receive. Silent prayers spoken in the mind, or prayers spoken aloud hold great power! Try both! Then end with a thank you. (“Thank you, Jesus” works for me.) Whatever happens will turn out for the best. We can trust that!
Prayers are one of the most powerful tools in our spiritual toolbox - most often forgotten and the most unused. Bring it all into prayer. Then watch your prayers be answered - even in a millisecond! It’s like God is waiting for us to ask.
