Bayou Meditation

Choose a Situation

Bring your attention gently into your heart space and become aware of one situation for which you would like guidance or insight.

It may be a choice you are considering, a relationship, a goal, a challenge, or simply something that keeps returning to your thoughts. You do not need to solve it now. Hold it lightly in your heart and allow it to become the focus of this journey.

Choose what first catches your attention or feels meaningful. There are no wrong answers, and you do not need to understand why you are drawn to a particular choice.

Your Journey Through the Bayou

Imagine yourself standing at the edge of a bayou. Notice the murky water, the trees and their large exposed roots, the low branches, and the hanging vines. Listen for birds, crickets, frogs, and the many sounds of life around you. A passage through the water opens between the trees.

1. The Guide

Before you begin, a guide appears to lead you safely through the bayou to a fishing camp. Who is here to guide you?

2. The Watercraft

Your guide takes you to the edge of the water, where a watercraft is waiting to carry you to the fishing camp. Which one do you see?

3. The Fork in the Waterway

As you travel deeper into the bayou, the channel divides. Listen to your inner guidance and notice which direction feels right.

4. The Wild Creature

A wild creature catches your attention. It does not need to be the one you like best. Choose the one that feels most significant in this moment.

5. The Meal

You arrive at the fishing camp just in time for a meal. Several dishes have been prepared for you. Which one draws you in?

6. The Musical Instrument

You enter the cabin and notice an instrument resting on a side table, ready to fill the bayou with music. Which instrument catches your attention?

7. The Carved Bird

On the main table is a beautifully carved bird. You sense that it is a gift for you. Which bird is waiting there?

8. The Parting Gift

You walk out the back door, and it is time to say goodbye to your guide. With gratitude for the journey, you offer a gift. What do you give?

Your Bayou Message

Allow this message to settle into your heart. You can return to the meditation with another situation and make different choices. A new journey may reveal another layer of guidance.
